2025 MISSOURI ALL-STATE ORCHESTRA OVERVIEW

 

PRIOR TO ARRIVING AT ALL-STATE ORCHESTRA

Musician Conduct

  • The “CODE OF CONDUCT” each student signed will be strictly enforced. Possession or use of illicit drugs or alcohol is illegal and will not be tolerated, at any All-State function, and could result in legal action. In addition, neither male nor female shall enter each other’s rooms from the time of arrival at Tan-Tar-A on Wednesday until room checkout on Saturday. Violating either of these rules will result in immediate dismissal from the All-State Orchestra. These rules and regulations are in place for the safety and well being of all All-State Orchestra members.

Packing Information 

  • Please mark all of your items with your name and All-State Orchestra
  • Everyone must bring a music stand and pencil. 
  • Bring an extra set of strings, mute, extra reeds etc
  • Cello/Bass should have a rock stop. 
  • It is expected that you come to ASO having the music prepared.
  • MoASTA, MMEA and/or Tan-Tar-A Resort assume no responsibility for any loss or damages to musical instruments. 

Instrument Information

  • You are solely responsible for your instrument and all belongings
  • Be sure to mark all items with your name, a phone number, and All-State Orchestra

Concert Dress

  • All students should arrive with formal concert black attire
  • Students should make sure that arms, legs, and full torsos are covered
  • Uniforms can include: long black skirt/dress slacks, long sleeve black blouse or comparable dress, tux/black suit, black tie, black dress shoes/socks (white dress shirts are acceptable with black tux/suits)

Food

  • Students cover their own meal costs.
  • Limited food is available on site. Expect to spend $35 per day

(Most students bring snacks and breakfast items) 

Leisure Activities 

  • There are several sports available at Tan-Tar-A. 
  • These cost money–plan accordingly.

General Information

  • A printed picture of the All-State Orchestra will be provided to every member of the ensemble.
  • Each All-State Orchestra member will receive a t-shirt at registration.
  • You may purchase a recording of the All-State Concert. Orders are taken at the exhibits downstairs in the main building.

AT ALL-STATE ORCHESTRA

Registration Wednesday, January 29, 2025, 3:00 –4:30 p.m 

(Main Building, Nautical Wheeler Room-up the escalator, then straight ahead to the right)

  • Your director or school official MUST sign you in. 
  • Receive schedules/ instructions (Strings chair audition sign up) 
  • Take personal items to your room 

Seating Auditions (Strings only) Wednesday, January 29, 2025, 5:00pm

  • You will be given your audition excerpts and audition time at check-in. 
  • There may or may not be call backs for the top 4 scoring students in each section.
  • Any student not checked-in by 4:30pm will forfeit their audition and be placed at the back of their section.

First Rehearsals – Wednesday, January 29, 2025

  • Woodwinds/Brass/Percussion Sectional – 6:00pm – Compass Rose Ballroom (bring your stand, instrument, music, and pencil) All Woodwinds, Brass, and Percussionists will have a sectional with the conductor as the Strings complete their chair auditions.
  • Opening Concert 7:00pm Paradise A – All-State Orchestra students will attend the General Session and will leave after The Collective performs to make it to the next rehearsal
  • Full Orchestra 9:00-12:00pm Paradise A – String players will receive their chair audition results at this time

Rehearsals

  • Rehearsals/Sectionals will take place in the areas designated in the  
    • All-State Orchestra will primarily rehearse in the Compass Rose Ballroom, though there will be a few rehearsals in Paradise A. Please refer to your schedule so you know where to go for each rehearsal.
    • These are shared spaces. 
    • It is important to leave quickly after rehearsal so the other All-State ensembles can set up. 

All-State Concerts Saturday, February 1, 2025 approximately 12:30 pm to 4:30 pm 

  • All-State Orchestra will perform at approximately 1:30 pm
  • Plan to meet parents in the lobby or near Parasol 2 following the concert 
  • Luggage will be stored in Parasol 2 in the Main Lodge during the concert
  • All-State photos will be available in Parasol 2 prior to the performance
