National High School Honors Orchestra
The National High School Honors Orchestra performs during the ASTA National Conference every other year. The next NHSHO will rehearse and perform during the Conference in 2010. ASTA will be looking for talented string, wind, brass and percussion students to apply for this orchestra. 120 Students selected from all over the United States will be brought together for an unparalleled educational opportunity.
High school juniors and senior students are eligible to apply for the orchestra. Students must apply first through their ASTA state chapters, submitting an audition tape or CD of required literature and three minutes from literature of their own choosing. The state coordinator and an audition committee select up to thirty applicants to forward to the national level. Separate audition committees for strings, winds, and percussion select the 120 students for the orchestra. The students are required to be members of their school orchestra. Students must follow the application process as stated above to be considered by the national committee.
Application forms and information about all repertoire requirements for the National High School Honors Orchestra will be available on the ASTA website www.astaweb.com, and in The American String Teacher, spring issue of 2009. For more information, contact:
